THE CODE MENU
LOAD MAP
KEY SEQUENCE: None
The LOAD MAP menu option allows up to load a previously saved map
file (See SAVE MAP below).
When selecting LOAD MAP you will be prompted with a file
requester. With the file requester you can either select a
displayed file name or enter a name for the map file that you
wish to load. Select OK to load the file or CANCEL to abort the
operation.
If OK is selected A64 will be reset and the requested map file
will be loaded. You will then be able to exit A64 Prefs and pick
up exactly where you left off in the frozen program.
NOTES: The entire filename can contain any legal AmigaDOS path
name, limited to 31 characters in length.
When loading a new map file A64 may not always redraw the
C64 screen correctly. You can press the TAB key to force
A64 to redraw the entire screen. This can be done at
anytime from within A64 Prefs and in C64 mode.
SAVE MAP
KEY SEQUENCE: None
A64 allows you to freeze the C64 program that A64 is running and
save it to an Amiga disk. The frozen program can then be
re-loaded at any time and you'll be able to exit A64 Prefs and
pick up exactly where you left off in the frozen program.
The SAVE MAP feature works much like a freeze cartridge does on
the C64. With this feature you can transfer almost any C64
program to an Amiga disk, including copy protected software.
When selecting SAVE MAP you will be prompted with a file
requester. With the file requester you can either select a
displayed file name or enter a name for the map file that you
wish to save. Select OK to save the file or CANCEL to abort the
operation.
If OK is selected A64 will check if the specified file already
exists and if it does you will be prompted with another requester
asking if you want to overwrite the old file. Select YES to
overwrite the old file or NO to abort the operation. If YES is
3-30
selected, or if the file did not already exist then A64 will save
the C64 program that A64 is running as a map file with the name
you specified.
NOTES: The entire filename can contain any legal AmigaDOS path
name, limited to 31 characters in length.
If you are doing a SAVE MAP of a C64 telecommunications
program it should be done before any actual communications
has started.
LOAD CODE
KEY SEQUENCE: None
The LOAD CODE menu option allows you to load a previously created
converted code module. The A64 Package includes a utility
program called "Convert." This utility takes a map file and
converts it into pure 680x0 Assembly language. This converted
file can then be loaded with the LOAD CODE menu option. The
converted C64 program will run significantly faster than it would
in its non-converted format. For a complete description of
the Convert utility see the CONVERT section.
When selecting LOAD CODE you will be prompted with a file
requester. With the file requester you can either select a
displayed file name or enter a name for the code file that you
wish to load. Select OK to load the file or CANCEL to abort the
operation.
If OK is selected A64 will be reset and the requested code file
will be loaded. You will then be able to exit A64 Prefs and pick
up exactly where you left off in the converted program.
NOTE: The entire filename can contain any legal AmigaDOS path
name, limited to 31 characters in length.
FREE CODE
KEY SEQUENCE: None
The FREE CODE menu option allows you to free the converted code
that was loaded with LOAD CODE. If there is no converted code
loaded then this option will be disabled.
If you select the FREE CODE menu option the loaded converted code
will be freed.
See: LOAD CODE above.

A64 ROMS
KEY SEQUENCE: None
The A64 ROMS menu item allows you load and free A64's ROM
emulation. This feature is only available if you have installed
the C64 ROMs (See ROMs and INSTALLING THE C64's ROMs in the
TECHNICAL section).
The A64 ROMS menu option has two settings: ON and OFF. You
can select one or the other of these settings and selecting one
automatically unselects the other. The current selected setting
is shown by displaying a checkmark next to it.
When ON is selected A64 will load and use its C64 ROM emulation,
resulting in C64 programs that use the C64's ROMs to run faster.
When OFF is selected A64 will free its ROM emulation. Freeing
approximately 180k of RAM. This will result in C64 programs
that use the C64's ROMs to run slower, however many C64 programs
barely use the C64's ROMs and you will not notice any decrease in
speed when running them with A64's ROM emulation freed.
